AN AGE-OLD PROBLEM
§ Legalism: Any attempt to HELP GOD OUT with (man made, extra biblical )extra RULES & REGULATIONS.
Isaiah 29:13(NIV)
The Lord says: "These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is made up only of rules taught by men.
THE PASSAGE:
1 Timothy 4:1-6/ Acts 20:17-18, 29-31/ 2 Corinthians 11:14-15/ Mark 7:14-23 & Romans 14:17-18
I Timothy 4:1-5(NIV)
1The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.
I Timothy 4:6(NIV)
6If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed.
WHY LEGALISM STINKS:
Proverbs 30:5-6/ Luke 18:9-14/ Colossians 2:20-23
o It assumes that God FORGOT something.
Proverbs 30:5-6(NIV)
5 "Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. 6 Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar.
o It produces ARROGANCE.

LEGALISM’S HOLY TRINITY:
Three verses they love to quote completely out of context.

Your body is the TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Never do anything that might cause the WEAK TO STUMBL.
w 1 Thessalonians 5:22
Avoid every APPEARANCE OF EVIL.
