What’s the big deal about grace?
1 Timothy 1:12-17
I Timothy 1:12-17(NIV)
12I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service. 13Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown MERCY because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. 14The GRACE of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
15Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. 16But for that very reason I was shown MERCY so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life. 17Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
1. YOU HAVE TO RECEIVE IT:
Romans 8:1-2(NIV)
1Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.
I John 1:9(NIV)
9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
►It is not about who we are or what we did, but what we want to become.
2. YOU HAVE TO LIVE IT:
►That means I am no longer in charge.
I Timothy 1:12(NIV)
12I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service.
Galatians 2:20(NIV)
20I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
I Corinthians 6:19-20(NIV)
19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
Romans 14:8(NIV)
8If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.
►That means loving those Jesus loved.
John 15:12(NIV)
12My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
I John 4:7-8(NIV)
7Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
►That means faithfulness precedes usefulness.
►That means living a life of thankfulness and worship.
I Timothy 1:17(NIV)
17Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Colossians 3:15-17(NIV)
15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
