Study for Small Groups and Personal Growth
For the week of March 23, 2008
This week we heard how our image of Jesus and who He really is can, at times, be in conflict. Was there any statement or point that was particularly confusing, caught your attention or challenged you?
My Story
1. Looking back at your childhood, was there anything your family, friends or relatives typically did during spring break and/or Easter weekend?
Typically the same as any other week
Group or family vacation
Special family or friends get together
Other
2. We all, at times, fall into the trap of making Jesus fit our view of who He is and miss who He really is. Looking back at the “Four Faces of Jesus” mentioned in this week’s teaching, is there one you would typically focus on more than the other? Are there any others you would add?
Digging Deeper
1. This week we heard how our image of Jesus can be contrary to who He really is and what He calls us to do. How might someone see Jesus’ response in the following passages as surprising or even hazardous toward His ultimate goal?
John 2:12-19
Mark 14:32-36
Matthew 26:47-52
Luke 23:32-34
2. Anything worth much usually costs much. The same is true when a person decides to follow Jesus. How does what Jesus say about the cost of following Him in Luke 14:25-35 fit with your spiritual journey and/or experience in following Him?
3. We were also reminded this week that Jesus is coming back and it might look a little different than we realize. What’s your response when you read Luke 12:35-40?
Do you think your life would look any different if you knew Jesus was definitely coming back in two years? If so, explain. How about two weeks?
